  3. to be printed in English. His translation of
  4. the psalms is that retained in the Book of
  5. Common Prayer. Coverdale, born in Yorkshire,
  6. became a Catholic priest, but turned to
  7. Protestantism and in 1528 went to the
  8. continent to avoid persecution. In 1539 he
  9. edited the Great Bible which was ordered to
  10. be placed in churches. After some years in
  11. Germany, he returned to England in 1548, and
  12. in 1551 was made bishop of Exeter. During the
  13. reign of Mary he left the country.
